My front page story for Outpost on Okinawa, first published in 2016, now available online! From awamori and pig ears, to the Ryukuan Kingdom and the U.S. marines, all that’s good, bad, and ugly in the tropical Japanese islands. Read it at Outpost!
My huge, massively researched feature for Groove, and my third cover story for them, on the history of Itaewon, Korea’s once gritty, now swanky, foreigner neighbourhood. A huge amount of work went into this story, and it was rewarded by being voted Cover Story of the Year 2014 by Groove’s readers. Read it at Groove.
My blow-out feature for Groove on anti-black racism in Korea. Six months of research, dozens of interviews across three continents, an uncountable amount of internet and book research, plenty of legwork, and it came down to this 6000 word feature. Cover story for February 2014, it was widely featured, discussed, reddited, argued over, and debated throughout the country. Winner of Groove Magazine’s Insight Story of the Year, 2014.
