My eighth and final column for the Korea Times, on the ludicrous levels of corruption around the Sochi Winter Olympics. Read it at the KT.
My blow-out feature for Groove on anti-black racism in Korea. Six months of research, dozens of interviews across three continents, an uncountable amount of internet and book research, plenty of legwork, and it came down to this 6000 word feature. Cover story for February 2014, it was widely featured, discussed, reddited, argued over, and debated throughout the country. Winner of Groove Magazine’s Insight Story of the Year, 2014. Read it at Groove.
My (very poorly titled) seventh column for the Korea Times, about the absolute and total failure of the drug war. Read it at the KT.
My sixth column for the Korea Times, on the criminalization of American poverty. Read it at the KT.
My fifth column for the Korea Times, this time on the evils of bottled water. Read it at the KT.
For Groove’s Christmas issue 2013, I ran down five charities you should absolutely avoid helping out this festive season. Read it at Groove.
One of my favourite stories of 2013 – we gathered 12 expats to taste-test 16 different sojus, the first time anyone has ever bothered comparing soju brands. Also included was a history of the drink, interviews with foreigners selling soju overseas and Koreans drinking it at home, and an analysis of why it’s so popular. Nominated for Groove’s Food and Drink Story of the Year, 2013. Read it at Groove.
My fourth column for the Korea Times, on the U.S.-Iran negotiations. Read it at the KT.
My profile of Yuppie Killer, the loudest, most hardcore expat punk band in Korea. Before they were in Vice, they were in Groove! Nominated for Groove Magazine’s Arts and Music Story of the Year, 2013. Read it at Groove.
My third column for the Korea Times, on the American drone war in Pakistan. Read it at the KT.
